Wow, it has been years since I have been to Delux in the South End; seriously, probably 5 or 6, and I had only popped in I think once prior for a drink. Last night I met the beau and some of his "lab" colleagues at this petite eatery that boasts some unpretentious and hearty down-home cooking and a pretty bold decor.
On the menu, classic cheap chow (pretty much everything is about $10 or less) that's
sure to pad the belly for a night of libations, such as hearty meat loaf, over-sized quesadillas, and tasty burgers. I opted for the special: pulled pork soft tacos served with fresh avocado and a mixed green salad. It was fabulous, and only 11 bucks! They have a full bar stocked with booze, wine, and an ample selection of beer.
And the interior design is what will make me go back. It feels more like and edgy dive bar in New York than a South End hot spot. The walls are plastered with retro pictures, album covers, risque artwork, random Christmas ornaments, and there's even a 3 or 4 foot tall lit-up Santa by the bathroom. Bizarro.
Don't expect the service to be sweet and don't take offense. Rather, expect 'em to be a little rude; it adds to the Delux character.
Can't seem to find a website? Anyone?
